About

Autism Coach, Nichole Martin

My name is Nichole Martin and I have been working with children who have been diagnosed with autism in various capacities for the last 8 years.  I have a dual B.A. in Psychology and Criminal Justice and a M.A. in Forensic Psychology.  During my academic training, I worked as an in-home behavior therapist with children, diagnosed with autism, ranging in age from 3-12 and a respite care provider.  From 2006-2008, I worked as a Child Development Specialist and a Behavior Program Specialist at The May Institute in Chatham, Massachusetts.

Over the past 8 years, it has became apparent to me that there is a limited knowledge about ASD in our community as a whole, as it relates to individuals who are not directly effected by autism.  It is because of this, I decided to develop my own coaching business to help parents connect their families to businesses that are interested in educating themselves as well as their staff and want to adhere to the needs of families with autism spectrum disorders in order to proved enhanced customer service.

Being a parent of a child who has autism is very rewarding however the feeling I have heard used most by parents is "frustrated, tired, burnt out".  Frustrated that there is a shortage of qualified people to help their children in their homes and in the community.  My vision for you and your family is to help decrease frustration by way of creating understanding amongst the masses about autism as well as foster your child's growth and quality of life.  My primary function is helping to create understanding amongst our community about ASD and how knowledge regarding ASD is vital to the growth and development of our community as a whole.

I am excited to meet you!  I look forward to establishing healthy, productive ways to help your child grow and will partner with local businesses to create services that will engage your child in the community.  In order to see an increase in the quality of life, our whole community has to start getting involved.

I am actively involved as a member of Capital Area Local First (CALF), the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Professional Women, ATHENA Women's Interest Network (WIN), National Association of Career Women and the Junior League of Lansing.

From a personal stand point, I am originally from East Lansing, Michigan.  From 2000-2008, I lived out of state (Wisconsin, Illinois and Massachusetts).  My husband, daughter and I are involved in several community groups.  We coach girls basketball for the East Lansing Basketball Club. I volunteer as the Parent Liaison of our daughter's child care center and work at the East Lansing Soccer Club Registrar.  We love to watch MSU sports, however we continue to be true to my husband's roots and keep close tabs on the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Celtics and the Bruins!
